The essence of data harnessing to meet Sustainable Goals. On a global scale, abject poverty, increase in equality and injustice, and climate change sit at the realm as focal concerns being experienced. To curb this, a Global Partnership for Sustainable Development Data (GPSDD) was formed and supported by 198 nations who vowed to achieve 7 global goals through a series of short term and long term efforts. Following last year’s Open Government Partnership (OGP) Initiative held in Mexico, South Africa was at the forefront chairing the continent’s Regional meeting in Cape Town earlier in May this year. Open Government Partnership Global Summit

The Open Government partnership global summit held in Mexico in 28th October 2015, set the stage for a buildup of inclusive multi-stakeholder enterprises to fast track data revolution in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In order to achieve this Governments will need to open up previously non-existing or closed channels to allow data flow to be used as a tool in the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
